Rainy Day Painting

It's a rainy day.
Can't go out to play.

What's a boy to do??

How about paint with mom? Yay!

 What a tease.  ;)
Cute little hand!

 Masterpieces complete!

Ka-corn

Blake loves everything about popcorn.
He calls it
KA-CORN, and I love it!  :)

He loves to help make it.

He pours the kernels in our air popper and waits excitedly to see the kernels begin popping!  He loves to watch them pop into the bowl, and his favorite part is that I let him add the salt while I stir in the butter.

We've had some salty popcorn lately.  ;)

And, of course, he loves to eat it!
Hooray for Ka-Corn!

Brave Little Knight

This little man is ALL BOY.
We love it!

He found a swimming pool noodle and his sister's stuffed platypus, and instantly became a knight on his trusty steed! He spent all morning riding around on his horse and poking us with his sword.  Ha ha!

Boys are fun.

Naptime

This little stinker was being super quiet during nap time the other day.  His mama was sure he must be sleeping soundly and having sweet dreams.  After more than an hour, when he started to make noise, she went into his room to find this:
Yes, my friends, those are diaper wipes.  Piles and piles of diaper wipes.

I still cannot figure out how he was able to reach them...I don't like to dwell on the visual image of him stretched far out of his crib to get these ...

The bag was a fairly new one, only opened for a few days, so you can guesstimate about how many wipes ended up in his crib.  He unpacked every last one of them, so well over 200.
Oh, this mischievous little boy!
Good thing he's so darn cute!

Sailor of the Week

This week at school, Katelee is the Sailor of the Week!
(Her classroom this year has an ocean theme.)
She was asked to make a poster about herself and her favorite things to display in her class.
She included her full name, her birthday, information about her family, and this list of favorites:

My favorite things are:
  • Place to visit: The mountains
  • TV show: Word Girl
  • Food: Pizza
  • Dessert: Cupcakes
  • Book: Ramona series
  • Movie: Frozen
  • Sport: Soccer
  • Outside Activity: Swimming
  • Color: Blue
  • Songs: "Everything is Awesome" and "Let it Go"
I love Katelee at this age.  Life through her eyes is so exciting and full of wonderful things!

Backyard Fun

After living in an apartment complex in Colorado, we feel blessed to live in a place where we have a private backyard right now.  The yard is a tiny, postage-stamp-sized space, but it's still a fenced and private yard, so I'm counting my blessings!  Honestly, it's just the right size for Blake; he loves to go play in the yard whenever possible, and Katelee enjoys it as well, though she wishes I'd give her a bit more freedom in the neighborhood.  ;)

Even though the space is small, we have made the most of it.

This year we finally cleaned out the sandbox and filled it with fresh new sand.  We contemplated just getting rid of it; what was inside was pretty yucky and the kids weren't allowed to touch it before.  But I convinced Gerald to clean it out and I bought some new sand and it has become the new favorite playplace!  :)
Sorry about these shots of Blake; it's impossible sometimes to get a picture of a busy two-year-old.
We also have our swingset/slide still in the yard, and both kids spend lots of time behaving like monkeys and getting out their wiggles.

It may be small, but it's still super fun, and I'm glad my kids have a safe and fun place to play on these nice spring days!

Easter Weekend

We had a beautiful Easter this year.

Every morning before school, we did these sweet activities to prepare for Easter and think more about Christ.  This was in the Children's Friend this year, a magazine subscription for children put out by our church.  I loved the special spirit these daily activities brought to our home, and want to make this a tradition in years to come.  You can download this page yourself here.

On Wednesday, we had Gerald's parents (who were still in town since Katelee's baptism) over for dinner and an evening of egg-dying.
Blake was particularly interested in this egg-dying stuff this year!
Ha ha, this is the best picture I got!
Pretty!

The Saturday before Easter, we held our annual Easter Egg Hunt.  We have been doing this now for 5 years, and we honestly couldn't imagine Easter without this fun tradition!  We invite anyone and everyone to participate.  Neighbors donate their own eggs, and we go out early and hide/place all the eggs for the hunt.  We had a perfect number of people this year, not too big and not too small, and I think everyone had a wonderful time!

This was about half the eggs we put out.
Hard to see, but can you see the scattered plastic eggs and 'planted' suckers around?
Some of the group beginning to line up.
Blake LOVED the egg hunt this year!  For the first time, he really understood what to do and wanted to participate, and he had so much fun running around collecting eggs!!
He particularly loved following his little buddy, James.
Katelee also had a great time on the hunt, and found some delicious eggs!
Look what I found, mom!
Following the Easter Egg Hunt, we went home to find that the Easter bunny had come and filled out kids' baskets and hid them away.  The kids had fun running around searching for their baskets.  Blake's was behind the curtains, Katelee's in the pantry.  We spent a happy hour or more enjoying the spoils.

Sunday morning we got ready in our Sunday best for church, and had a little family devotional about the true meaning of Easter before leaving.  Then we had to do the usual Easter morning photo shoot of these cuties.  :)

I love Easter, and this one was so lovely.

Oh, and Blake really enjoyed his chocolate bunny after church.  :)
(Yes, he's giving it a hug...)
